Porthcurno’s secret coves; paddle your way to privacy

Porthcurno beach

You have probably already heard of the stunning award winning Porthcurno Beach. One of the many striking Cornish spots that adorns post cards and travel guides. Well known for its translucent turquoise water, glorious white sand and magnificent granite cliffs, which give it that exclusive private island feeling.

This beach is well known and popular with tourists so it can get super busy during the summer months. We recommend escaping the crowded beaches by hiring a paddle board from one of our local suppliers. You only need to paddle a little way to feel away from the masses, and enjoy some peace and tranquility, not to mention a differnt perspective of the gorgeous Cornish coastline.

After you have explored the main beach and tested the waters with your paddleboard, you can explore a little further to discover the secluded coves around the corner from Porthcurno beach. These stunning little coves still feature the white sand and crystal-clear water of Porthcurno, but are far less crowded - a little summer haven.

Cornwall's most hidden beach

Nanjizal Beach

We promise this blog isn't all about gorgeous beaches (although it could easily be!)

If you're looking to truly escape from the crowds, then you will need to be prepared to travel on foot, and this secluded spot is a bit of a hike. But it is 100% worth the effort. Picture caves, waterfalls and natural stone sculptures. It's called Nanjizal Beach and it is around an hours walk from the nearest road.

Detailed directions can be found online, but you'll have to follow them carefully as there are no signs to this hidden oasis.

P.s dogs are invited all year round, so no one needs to miss out on the beach fun!

Discover your holiday tipple

Now, there is nothing like some glorious summer sunshine to have to you craving a crisp, cold cider or glass of wine. And if you can make it local - even better!

Polgoon Vineyard and Orchard produce cider, wine and juices from their farm in Penzance. You can take either a guided or unguided tour, depending on your preference.  At this Cornish vineyard you can learn about the various fruits used to make their award-winning wine and cider. You will also learn how they care for the fruit plants along with the production process so you can understand how the beverages are made.

After your relaxing walk around the vineyards and orchards and having an insight into the making of the award-winning drinks, you will be able to test them for yourself. You will have just under two hours to spend indulging and testing out the beverages and enjoying some nibbles too if you wish.

The oldest pub in Penzance

Steeped in history, The Turks Head is reputed to date from 1233 when the Turks invaded Penzance, and was the first pub in England to be named so.

Pop in for a pint in this historic watering hole in Penzance town, and imagine the Pirates and Smugglers of 750 years ago in the same spot.

Explore the narrow streets of Mousehole

mousehole harbour

Pronounced 'Mowzle'. Of course. Mousehole is located just 2.4 miles south of Penzance and is full of all the charm you'd expect from a Cornish fishing village.

Dylan Thomas reportedly described the village as 'the loveliest village in England'.

Discover galleries, shops and cafes dotted along the winding streets. Pick up a holiday souvenir, enjoy a leisurely coffee, and spend some time on the sandy harbour beach.
